In San Diego, springtime is short. We go pretty quickly from cold winter (which for us is like, 60 F during the day) to blistering hot summer pretty quickly. In fact, we have a couple of 85 F days coming up this week as I write this. So once the first quarter of the year is over, I tend to start mixing it up in our house in preparation for warmer days.
That white shag rug is cozy, but definitely too warm for San Diego in the spring and summer. And in the warmer months, I tend to want more and more color. Adding the Elodie rug into the space was an instant pop of color and happiness!
I love how it looks with our pink upholstered bed frame. Also, I’m so happy with how our spring DIY floral wreath dried and that I can keep it up there year-round!
Another easy swap was throw pillows. I love my St. Frank Textiles Euro shams, but with this rug pattern, it felt like a lot. So instead of buying new pillows, I just turned them around to their neutral side! I ordered a few covers from H&M and Target and added those onto pillows we already had. I also swapped out my heavy duvet cover for my favorite summer cover. We use linen year-round for that relaxed, lived-in look, but this cover is the perfect weight for warmer months.
I always make it a point to have fresh flowers in our bedroom during springtime. I made these from a few Trader Joe’s bouquets that I arranged in a pedestal vase.
I always like to remove as much as possible during warmer months, so the room doesn’t feel cluttered. Right now, all I’m keeping on my nightstand is a fun plant, this amazing vintage smoker’s set and my favorite candle from Paddywax.
You’ll notice from my home tour that I made some swaps with my wall décor as well. I added in a floor-length mirror to help the room feel larger, and added this fun wall shelf to help get some of my favorite trinkets off the countertops and onto the wall.
I’m loving the switch up in this space. The room is small, but our Elodie rug and these other seasonal swaps make me so happy!
