This year’s summer solstice is on Thursday, June 20 (aka so close)! It is the longest day of the year, and also the official halfway point. I love celebrating some not-so-typical moments, so why not make a day of everything? Stop and celebrate the little victories like finally getting those office summer Fridays, or achieving that goal you set back in January.
Here are 5 things to do this summer solstice!
Invite your best girlfriends over
You’ll be wrapping up early on Friday, so why not make the most of your Thursday night and celebrate the fact that it’s almost the weekend? Have everyone bring a dish to your house and host a viewing party of one of your favorite films, or just a relaxed get-together in your backyard is enough. Use the time to catch up and make some tentative plans to look forward to for the rest of the summer.
Go to the beach
If you’re lucky enough to live by the shore, this is the perfect day to take advantage of it. Bring the book that’s been sitting on your nightstand, untouched, and just unravel under the sun. The sound of the waves crashing always seems to soothe me, creating the perfect mood for a thriller or comedy—whichever is more enticing for you.
Watch the sunrise
For the longest day of the year, make it worth getting up in the morning to watch a beautiful sunrise by including your partner. Single? Then take the pup with you. Make some coffee and pull up a chair in your backyard while under some covers and just enjoy the view. There are very few things worth getting up early for, but this will definitely be worth it. Plus, it might just help you knock out earlier, too.
Grill your dishes
Celebrate barbecue season with a barbecue of your own. No need to invite the neighborhood for this one. Keep it small and chill with just you and some of your favorite people. Even if it’s just you and your partner, you can both make all of your recipes on the grill, or try some new ones.
Have a bonfire
If you have a fire pit, then you should definitely take advantage of it! My boyfriend and I like to sit around our fire pit in the backyard, make s’mores and watch the sun go down. No phones allowed! This actually turns out to be a really nice time to just reconnect without our devices anywhere near us to distract us.
