If you have children, you know how much they thrive on routines. Change up the daily routine even once and get ready to experience a very unhappy, cranky child. Just like children, adults also thrive on routine. We are creatures of habit, after all. If you don’t have a routine in place, you might end up feeling stressed out, unhappy, and unproductive.

Here are some reasons why structure and routine can make you healthier and boost your happiness:

Less Stress

When you have a routine in place, you know what to expect each day. Sure, things can change and your routine might have to be adjusted every now and again, but most of the time, you can put your mind at ease by knowing what your day will be like as soon as you wake up in the morning.

 

Exercise

Working out usually requires some planning. Whether it means finding the time to go to the gym or blocking out time to work out at home, it’s something that many of us need motivation to do. When you have a routine, you can fit that exercise in your daily schedule and stick to it even if you don’t feel up to it. It will ensure you get some type of exercise each day, and you’re likely to feel better physically and mentally afterward.

Diet

If you plan ahead your meals, you’re likely to eat healthier. Without a routine, you might either miss meals, grab something unhealthy on the go or opt for whatever is in your fridge. It will keep your eating on track and give you the energy you need to get through the rest of the day.

A healthy sleep schedule is crucial in keeping your mind and body at its best. This will leave you feeling extra tired by morning and can affect your productivity levels throughout the day.
