Sometimes, the whole “Pinterest” aesthetic can feel unattainable. Whether you have a small space, a rental or a hodgepodge of furniture, there are a few tips and tricks you can keep in your back pocket for that fully put-together look. We promise you don’t have to break the bank or completely transform your space to make your house a home.
1. Style your shelves
Styling shelves is one of my favorite things to do in my house. Whether you’re collecting a lot of souvenirs from travels or keeping a minimalist vibe, styling the shelves in your home is a great way to express your aesthetic without it feeling cluttered. The best part is you can mix and match and move items around for each season or whenever you need a change.
2. Try a gallery wall
Gallery walls are having a real moment on Pinterest, and we’re big fans. You can utilize photographs, artwork or your favorite vintage finds. It’s an easy project you can tackle on the weekends, or just whenever you have a spare evening. In my opinion, the more eclectic the pieces, the better the gallery wall looks.
3. Clean as you go
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a messy home when scrolling through Pinterest. But more than that, having a clean home helps you feel calmer and happier in your space. By cleaning and picking up as you go, it’s easier to keep everything in its place, thus keeping the overall aesthetic mentally and emotionally pleasing.
4. Add in fun textures
You can make quite a splash on a budget with some wallpapers or tiles. Whether it’s a fun kitchen backsplash or a patterned accent wall, it’s so simple to make your space look like it was arranged by an interior designer.
5. Let the light in
Natural light is the key to a happy, beautiful space. Go for big, open windows and doors where you can, or opt for sheer curtains that will let the light seep in without compromising your privacy. Each morning when you wake up, open up the curtains and let the light work its magic.
6. Always have a living element
My personal rule is to always have fresh flowers in each room. If you follow along with our Instagram Stories, you know I love to buy affordable blooms from Trader Joe’s each Sunday and make my own arrangements for the rooms in our house. It’s a much more affordable way to always have flowers on hand. If you’re allergic to flowers or just prefer greenery, bringing in multiple houseplants to each room will breathe new life into it. I recommend always having at least one large floor plant, and at least two other smaller plants that can be styled on shelves or tabletops. Plus, the benefits of having them in your home are so great, it’s a win-win.
7. Curate your coffee table
A curated coffee table is a stylish way to help your home look more put-together. You can utilize a mixture of coffee table books, trays of various sizes, candles, abstract objects and of course, fresh flowers. Once you get your formula down, you’ll find it’s one of the easiest surfaces in your home to style.
